Almost Famous-Greatest rock movie

As the title says, Almost Famous is considered by me to be one of the Greatest Movies of all Time and the best RocknRoll movie ever. Cameron Crowe may have got it a bit wrong with Vanilla Sky and a whole lot wrong with Elizabethtown but Almost Famous is a well crafted, incredibly well written movie. Crowe does not consider flashy camera angles or nifty special effects, he just writes a story that makes u laugh and cry. There are not many movies out there that I have seen where at the end, I'm sad that they finish but this is one that not only makes me sad when its over but makes me long to be a part of the 70's music scene. Every character is well conceived, and the actors that fulfil the roles are perfectly cast. Maybe my only gripe is Patrick Fugit as William. As I watched the movie I felt he just did not understand the weight of the role he was playing. Don't worry, its a small gripe. Awesome awesome awesome.

  1. Sorry mate. The best rock n roll movie ever has to be 'School of Rock'. A close second is the November Rain film clip which is almost feature length.

  4. For me mate, there are too many great movies out there. But to try and answer the question a few that I like are
Jaws, Fight Club, The Usual Suspects, Unbreakable, The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy, The Game, The Dark Knight, Memento, Star Wars, Twister
As far as Avatar is concerned it looked amazing, like nothing i have seen before but I felt the story was a little weak. But I must admit, James Cameron is pretty incredible, he seems to be able to find the common ground amongst society and then play to it. Eg. Aliens, Terminator 2, Titanic and now Avatar

  5. If it falls in the genre Pink Floyd - The Wall gets my vote. Always had a soft spot for the Rock Opera, whatever happened to them???

  7. As my beloved brother said:
"Almost Famous is considered by me to be one of the Greatest Movies of all Time and the best RocknRoll movie ever." There can be no question of this. Apologies to those who love 'School of Rock' but it just wasn't that great. Gene Simmons did a better job (a serious job) schooling those uptight British public school kids in 'Rock Star'.

I guess I expected 'School of Rock' to maintain Jack Black's level of humour and whilst the film did have an unexpected level of emotional content I didn't come away from it thinking 'I'd love to see that again', always a sure sign than I have enjoyed a film.

With 'Almost Famous', not only did I come away feeling like I had been taken on a journey but every time I watch the film I come away feeling the same. "...makes me long to be a part of the 70's music scene." A feeling that I, too, am left with after watching this film and no other musical film has had that effect on me.

Frances McDormand (who plays William's mother in the film) described the film (to Cameron Crowe) as Crowe's 'love story to Rock 'n' Roll'. I couldn't have put it better myself. (As for that ninnie Charles Woolley who called it a 'romantic comedy' or those idiots who missed the point entirely and called it a film version of 'The Wonder Years' the less said the better!)
